The Ohio Federation was founded in February of 1920 in Columbus, Ohio and has remained in the top ten circle of states since its founding. The
2004 year closed with 60 local clubs with over 1,000 members. The current BPW/OHIO president

BPW/USA In 1917 the United States was busy switching from a civilian to wartime economy. It was not until then that
national leaders realized that there was no unified means to mobilize this country's woman power in
|

the event of an emergency. The War Department learned that the women of the nation were organized into religious, cultural and fraternal groups. The only unorganized group seemed to be the business and
professional women of the nation.
A $65,000 grant was established under the guidance of the YWCA to organize a group that might be of value in the war emergency. Before this was accomplished, the Armistice
was signed and there were no longer any war requirement needs. But the Secretary of War felt the formation of this organization was important enough to be considered a postwar project.
The first national
convention was held in St. Louis in July, 1919, there were 212 delegates from 45 states.
With
26,000 members in 1,000 local organizations across the country, BPW/USA promotes equity for all women in the
workplace through advocacy, education and information. BPW/USA is represented in every congressional district in the country and includes among its members women and men of every age, religion, race, political party
and socio-economic background. Our national headquarters is located at
