Be Positive Women & Make Things Happen!
GOALS FOR 2022-2023
Elizabeth J. Herrell, Ohio BPW President
Be Positive Women – And Positive Things Will Happen! IS my theme this year because there is too much negativity surrounding us today. So let’s start with ourselves. Surround yourself with positive people. Smile. Be open to humor. Practice gratitude – keep a gratitude journal. Be healthy – eat well, have a sleep schedule, meditate, exercise. Volunteer or give of yourself – practice regular acts of kindness. Positive thinking can reduce your stress level, help you feel better about yourself (and the situation) and improve your overall well-being and outlook. Negative things will happen, we can’t avoid them, but we can control our attitude and practice the power of positive thinking. Remember everything is temporary.
“Your attitude towards life influences your happiness, not what happens to you.” -
Thibaut Meurisse, Master Your Emotions
This year I want to emphasize Membership and Legislation.
We cannot do anything without our members! Membership Chair Chandra L. Forshey Ontko would like for EACH member to recruit at least ONE new member – and we would double our membership! Ohio BPW will again offer $10 off their annual state dues for their first year when they join in October 2022 or April 2023. Membership Grants will also be offered to each Local to help hold a National Business Women’s Week (NBWW) event and/or an Equal Pay event. But we also need to mentor new members. Involve your new members immediately – have an induction ceremony, assign them to a committee and a mentor, but don’t ignore your other members – recognize member’s accomplishments and years in BPW (10, 15, 20, 25 etc.). Everyone likes to be appreciated.
I also want to recognize members who are recruiting NEW members. Each month starting in June 2022 through April 2023, I will reward the member who has recruited the most members with a $25 gift card from Bob Evans. In case of a tie, the member who was recruited the earliest in the month (money received by the Treasurer) will be the winner. The Recruiter of the Month will be recognized in the OBW. The person who recruits the MOST members by the end of April will receive $100. Be a Recruiter for BPW!
We are a legislative based organization. Legislative Chair, Kathy Telban, will help keep us abreast of upcoming legislation. Program Chair, Charisse Kellums wants you to meet, either in person or on Zoom, and include topics that I’m passionate about – Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), Buckeye Girls State (BGS), Domestic Violence, Pay Equity, Legislative Platform, Health, and Legislation. EACH Local that holds five (5) in person or Zoom meetings, AND uses 5 of the above topics at a meeting or an event will receive $25 at Conference. I want ALL Locals to WIN!
A Lobby Day will be planned and will be announced later next year. I hope members will write their legislators, work at the Polls, and write Letters to the Editor. Let your voice be heard!
State Conference will be held at Deer Creek Lodge and Conference Center in Mt Sterling, OH. Diana Gibbens, Conference Chair, is putting together a Committee for an AWESOME Conference. Think about people you would like to recognize in your local, region or state with a “shout out” in the Conference Book called “Pawsitives”.
The President’s Project this year will be FUN! I’m asking each Local to bring a new (OR gently used) purse filled with additional items inside to make it attractive, to the November 2022 Meeting, where purses will be auctioned off.
I want Locals and Regions to plan FUN and INFORMATIVE meetings so members will be excited to attend. And I will make sure State Meetings are worth your time and money.
So, let’s Be Positive Women and MAKE things happen!
